Bronx, June 3, 2005 – The deadline for applications for the Bronx Writers’ Center’s Fellowship & Residency Program is Monday, June 20, 2005. New York City poets, fiction writers, playwrights, and screenwriters under the age of 30 are en-couraged to apply! All manuscripts must be in the offices of the Bronx Writers’ Center by 5:00pm on June 20th.
Into its fifth year, this annual Fellowship was created to support emerging writers with financial support early in their ca-reers helping them to focus on developing their craft. The program will award two recipients with a nine-month residency that includes a $5,000 stipend.
Fellows are required to complete a public service project at the Writers’ Center during their residency. Past Fellows have used their residencies to teach workshops, provide one-on-one manuscript critiques, and provide technical assistance to writers seeking to publish their work.
The Bronx Writers’ Center, a program of The Bronx Council on the Arts, is proud of its successful track record for ?nding emerging literary talent. Its annual Fellowship program, along with its Chapter One fiction competition, has been a career-launching opportunity for its winners. Previous fellows include playwright and performance poet Sarah Jones (Surface Transit, Bridge and Tunnel,), fiction writer Angie Cruz (Soledad, Simon & Schuster, 2001), fiction writer Nelly Rosario (Song of the Water Saints, Pantheon, 2002), poet Hayan Charara (The Alchemists Diary, Hanging Loose Press, 2001), poet Anthony Morales (Nuyorican Fresh Poet, 2001) and poet Suheir Hammad (Def Poetry Jam on Broadway).
