overheard in irvington

presently at the irvington public library for a reading but i had to get this out there.

in discussing the differences between ‘poetry’ and ‘performance poetry’ i get this gem dropped on me:
“i really enjoy her use of language, particulary black english”

you can NOT make this up, y’all

oh, you can add this to the mix as well:
“by the way, my name is _________”
cool. i’m oscar
“last name?”
bermeo
“huh!”
bermeo
“spell that, please”
b.e.r.m.e.o.
“oh, thats very foreign to me”
